Website or Telegram Mini App: which one does your business need

Both take orders, but customers find them in different ways. Which one wins, and when.

One of the questions I get asked most: “Do we need a website or a Mini App in Telegram?” My answer always starts with one question: where do your customers find you?

Most people think this question is about technology. It’s really about people.

The main difference — where the customer comes from

A website is for people coming from Google. Someone searches “air conditioner repair in Chilonzor” and lands on your site. They don’t know you; this is the first time they’re seeing you.

A Mini App lives inside Telegram. People open it from your channel, your bot, or a link a friend sent them. Google barely sees it. So anyone who comes to your Mini App already knows you one way or another.

So the question isn’t “which one is better”. The question is where your customer is hanging out right now.

When a Mini App wins

  • You already have a Telegram channel or group, and your audience is there.
  • Customers order again and again: food, coffee, flowers, cosmetics.
  • No sign-up needed — Telegram already knows who the person is, name and account included.
  • Order notifications come right here too: to the customer and to you.

When a website wins

  • Strangers need to find you through search.
  • Your service is expensive, and customers read a lot before deciding: portfolio, prices, reviews.
  • Some of your customers don’t use Telegram — for example, people abroad or large companies.
  • Your brand needs a “home”: a domain, an official page, an address to put on business cards and documents.

What about both?

Often that’s the right answer. The nice part is that both can be connected to one system. Products, prices and orders live in one place, and both the website and the Mini App show that data. Change a price in one place, and it changes in both.

Just don’t start both at once. Start where your customer already is, watch it take off, then add the second. You’ll save both money and nerves.

Don’t call customers to the place that’s convenient for you. Go where they already are.
