A Telegram bot for your business: where to start

What should go into your first bot, and what can safely wait.

At the first meeting, people often show me a three-page list: catalog, cart, payments, bonuses, a referral system, an AI advisor, an admin panel, analytics… It all seems necessary. And I always ask one question: what do you expect from the bot in the first month?

After that question, the list usually gets cut in half.

A first bot’s job is to solve one problem

A bot can do a lot. But the first version doesn’t have to do everything. Its job is to solve one specific problem and show that customers actually use it. Everything else comes after that.

What goes into the first version

  • Main menu: 3–5 buttons, no more.
  • A catalog or list of services — photo, price, short description.
  • An order or request: name, phone, what they need.
  • A heads-up for you: a notification to a group or an admin the moment a new order comes in.
  • Frequently asked questions: location, business hours, delivery.

What can wait

  • Bonus and referral programs — first see whether people use the bot at all.
  • Detailed analytics — in the first month, the number of orders and which products are selling is enough.
  • An AI advisor — until you know which questions come up most, you don’t know what to teach it either.
  • Online payments — if your customers already pay on delivery, you don’t need them from day one.

After launch

From the day the bot goes live, the most valuable thing it gives you is data. Which buttons people tap, where they get stuck, what they ask. Watch for a week or two and choose the next step based on that. Bonus program or AI — that’s now decided by numbers, not guesswork.

A good bot isn’t one that’s perfect on day one. It’s one that gets a little better every month.
